Celebrity fragrances continue to be big news with ever more famous faces venturing onto the scent scene for the first time and others extending existing lines.
Christina Aguilera – Inspire
Designed to celebrate a woman “full of femininity and fun”, Christina Aguilera’s Inspire is a white floral affair. Based on a heart of tuberose flower – one of the singer’s favourites – it has fruity citrus and mango top notes which mingle with freesia over base notes of sandalwood and Valencia orange.
Victoria Beckham – Signature
Following on from the success of their his’n’hers Intimately Night scents Becks and his wife extended their collection with Beckham Signature. “You are getting a piece of David and me with this,” the former Spice Girl promised. Posh’s contribution is defined by candy apple, orchid, vanilla and patchouli, while David’s is a woody oriental with mandarin, watermelon and spicy juniper berry notes.
Halle Berry – Halle
Although she waited until 2009 before launching her signature scent, Halle Berry knew a thing or two about the process having blended her own for years. Her debut – a woody oriental – has top notes of bergamot, fig leaves and pear blossom over a heart of freesia petals and hibiscus flowers. Base notes encompass sandalwood, cashmere musk and amber. The result invites women “to reveal their inner beauty, sensuality and strength of character,” says the Oscar-winning beauty.
Kelly Brook – Vivacious
Also revisiting the perfume arena for a second time is Kelly Brook. Her Vivacious combines delicious notes of raspberry, rose and vanilla for a fresh new scent. “It’s fun, sexy, demure and sophisticated,” defined the British model. “I like to think I can be those things when I wear it”.
Mariah Carey – Luscious Pink
Luscious Pink, Mariah Carey’s sparkling floral affair, comes in a pearlescent pink flacon topped with the singer’s signature butterfly icon, and reflects the songstress’ soaring range in its use of sparkling bellini and bergamot.
Hilary Duff – Wrapped With Love
Actress and singer Hilary drew on some of her favourite things, including white chocolate mousse, raspberries and vanilla beans, for the notes in her second signature scent, Wrapped With Love. Packaged in a pretty pink bottle, the perfume is “inspired by Hilary’s fun and flirtatious side”.
Paris Hilton – Fairy Dust
American socialite and reality TV star Paris Hilton tapped into the magic of children’s tales for Fairy Dust, taking on the persona of Peter Pan character Tinker Bell in the ad campaign. A blend of pink peonies and orange blossom over middle notes of spring gardenia, water lily, and peach nectar, it’s topped off with a blend of vanilla crème and cashmere musk.
Avril Lavigne – Black Star
Canadian punk rocker Avril Lavigne joined the celebrity fragrance club with Black Star. A summer 2009 release, it features notes of black plum, dark chocolate, and pink hibiscus and is packaged in an edgy pink and black bottle inspired by Avril’s love of studded belts and bracelets. “I wanted to make sure it was really me — me in a bottle,” she says
Jennifer Lopez – Sunkissed Glow
Expanding on her popular collection of Glow fragrances – Glow, Miami Glow, Love At First Glow and Glow After Dark – the singer released Sunkissed Glow in February 2009. Packaged in a sleek bottle with bracelet detailing, the scent is described as beachy, flowery, and fruity, with notes of orange blossom, water lilies and passion flowers.
Kylie Minogue – Sexy Darling
Hot on the heels of Darling and Sweet Darling came the latest fragrance from pop princess Kylie Minogue – Sexy Darling. An alluring floral woody scent, it has top notes of pink pepper, pear and blood orange and a base that includes sandalwood and musk. The Aussie star says she created it for “today’s sexy, self-assured woman who’s passionate and playful”.
Kate Moss – Summer Time
Following the success of Velvet Hour, the British covergirl added limited edition scent Summer Time to her fragrance repertoire in late April 2009. A breezy floral fragrance, it represents the femininity and sensuality of the model through notes of English rose, peony, wisteria and bluebell laid against a base of mahogany wood, tonka bean, and musk.
Sarah Jessica Parker – Covet Pure Bloom
Covet Pure Bloom was a limited-edition summer follow-up to Sarah Jessica Parker’s Covet. Featuring a greater range of tropical notes than the original, it includes Indonesian pikake flower, coconut, jasmine and plum, as well as tuberose and jasmine over creamy musks.
Jessica Simpson – Fancy
Jessica Simpson’s Fancy is a feminine, floral oriental scent which opens with notes of pear, apricot and red fruit. At its heart lies jasmine overlaid with traces of toasted almonds and caramel, with sandalwood, amber and vanilla added for longevity. The actress says she was aiming to create a scent she “could be just as comfortable wearing on the red carpet or everyday with my favourite jeans”.
Britney Spears – Hidden Fantasy
Pop princess Britney Spears topped off her triumphant comeback last year with the launch of her seventh fragrance, Hidden Fantasy. A sweet scent inspired by the singer’s “love for white florals, vanilla and luscious desserts”, it has a sensual heart of jasmine and sweet Napolitano cake. Other discernable notes include Mexican vanilla bean, clove and orange.
